Holiday Workout Strategies

It is a challenge to continue working out during the festive seasons, especially with Christmas party invitations and the usual year end catching up sessions with friends whom you have not met in awhile. I find that year end is always the time for me to slack off and put on more weight, which I find depressing because it leads to the same vicious circle of losing weight for the new year.

So, this year is different. Yes, the parties still go on but there are ways of handling the stresses of over partying. So to avoid putting on weight this festive season I have devised cunning plans such as:

Short and intensive body weight workouts (think www.bodyrock.tv)

Skipping rope (hello, where have you been all my life?)

Eating in before heading to a party, arrive FASHIONABLY late and have a drink or two, leave at a decent hour

Drink plenty of water throughout the day

Walk around more, I park my car way way out from the party scene. (This also helps in the sobering up process after the party. Hopefully you are not too pissed then, that you still remember where your car is!)

Sneak in a lunch hour quickie workout - which is what I have been doing these days as my office is 5 minutes away from home.

Other than that, sometimes, it is just good to say no to alcohol - I do tell my friends I am too tired to drink or party too much, because I honestly hate the feeling of being totally knackered the next day. I also find that if I talk about running or working out long enough, my party friends will just tune me out and leave me be :p (mission accomplished, no late nights and alcohol). I do love my friends to bits, but I seriously have passed the stage of late night parties, which unfortunately, is still their current stage :)

What do you do to continue your routine? Or do you just stop until January? A little something something is still better than nothing, I say!
